We Sunk a Three-Pointer!

March Madness hoopla is here and Roper St. Francis Healthcare has been sticking to our game plan (which is going for excellence, always) and we’re pleased to announce that we recently scored three for three on some pretty crunch shots.

Every year, hospitals around the country get scrutinized by Truven Health Analytics, a leading, objective national healthcare consulting and advisory firm (these folks were probably not college basketball players, btw; they were the math, econ and statistics majors). The results allow institutions to benchmark themselves among their competitors and peer institutions on various quality standards. A report card, basically.

Only three hospitals in South Carolina made the cut as a Top 100 in the US hospital. And all three were Roper St. Francis hospitals. Yep, three for three. Swoosh.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital was also named one of 17 Everest Award winners, which are hospitals that had the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years. This is the second year in a row that Roper Hospital was included on the Top 100 list, and it’s the first time for Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital.

“Our incredible team has been working hard, especially these past few years, and those efforts are paying off with national honors,” said Allen Carroll, regional CEO of Roper St. Francis and CEO of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. “After being re-designated as a Magnet Hospital last summer and being named a Top 100 Hospital now, this reaffirms that we are leading our peers across the country and moving in the right direction.”

If you’re interested in the nitty-gritty: to rank the top 100 hospitals, Truven compares and rates data on 3,000 short-term, acute-care hospitals, looking at inpatient mortality, 30-day mortality rate, complications, core measures, readmission rate, average length of stay, mean emergency room throughput, inpatient expense per discharge, Medicare spend per beneficiary, adjusted operating profit margin and patient ratings.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled hoops game. Go team!
